General Information

We offer general foot care and foot health advice, diabetic foot care, footwear and footwear advice, corrective and functional orthoses (insoles) to name a few!!! Go to our Services page to find out more. 

All our chiropodists/podiatrists at Fulwell Foot Health are State Registered Chiropodists, meaning that they have all undergone a three year full time medical based degree course, and are experts in treating the foot and related problems. State Registration is required when working in the National Health Service. Your chiropodist may be the first person to recognise when a foot problem could be due to other factors and in such cases may refer you to your GP or other medical specialist.

Debra Darke has been established as the Chiropodist/Podiatrist in Fulwell Road for more than 10 years. Debra qualified as a state registered chiropodist in 1981 at the Northern College of Chiropody, Manchester. 

Debra subsequently worked as a Chiropodist in the health service, gaining many years experience. She is a recognised examiner and teacher of Chiropody and has worked as a lecturer at both the Northern college and Durham Schools of Chiropody and Podiatry. In 1993, Debra gained a First Class honours degree in Podiatric medicine at Sunderland University and was subsequently invited back as a visiting lecturer.

Debra has always had an interest in prevention of painful foot conditions and since qualifying in 1981 developed this by studying, researching and teaching in the discipline of Biomechanics. 

Other chiropodist/podiatrist: Karen Foster qualified in 1991 with a  diploma in podiatric medicine, is employed part time at the practice and has been with the practice since she qualified.

From time to time there are part time locum chiropodists/podiatrists employed by the practice, all of which are State Registered.

Biomechanics

Biomechanics is the science that deals with the complex way in which the body moves. How the foot is placed on the ground affects the rest of the body as it is moving and vice versa. This may give rise to not only painful feet, but also pain elsewhere such as knee pain, back pain and can even be a cause of migraine!!! Experienced Podiatrists, such as Debra Darke, can treat such biomechanical problems. A biomechanical assessment includes a thorough medical history, examination of joint motion and gait analysis. After which a treatment plan is discussed, this may include exercise, shoe, or orthotic therapy (special insoles). Click here to read more.

Practice Hygiene

Very high standards are maintained here at Fulwell Foot health,  disposable items are used wherever possible. All blades used are of sterile, surgical quality with one blade being used per person per treatment. Non - disposable items are heat sterilised by autoclave after use. All strapping is hypoallergenic. 

At your initial consultation prior to treatment, a short medical history will be taken. This helps us understand your problem, and to identify any areas that may require specialist treatment. We will ask a few questions just to get a good idea of your general health and to determine the most effective treatment plan for you.
